EoF strongly calls on PT. Bina Daya Bintara/APRIL to immediately stop their logging and timber sourcing operations to prevent questionable clearing of natural forests which (1) are still in good condition, (2) are on peat soil deeper than 3m, (3) are designated as Protection Forest in the currently active Provincial Land Use Plan. EoF also strongly calls APRIL live up to its public pledge to work with local NGOS to delineate all HCVFs prior to any logging of natural forests. EoF has not accepted yet internal assessment conducted by PT RAPP/APRIL in this concession due to it is not reviewed and approved by local stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Eliezer P Lorenzo, Environment Manager – Riaufiber of PT Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper, replied the letter on Wednesday informing that Jouko Virta will respond it formally. EoF appreciates the statement made by Eliezer Lorenzo saying “PT Bina Daya Bintara license is valid and had already been verified by the Ministry of Forestry (MoF).” Despite this, EoF disagrees with that comment and analyzes based on the Ministry’s exemption letter that the verification has yet to finish.
